Kendrick Lamar's new album 'GNX' drops in surprise release.
Rapper Kendrick Lamar released his latest project, a 12-track album titled "GNX" on Friday. It's his first full-length studio album since 2022, and it came as a complete surprise. Just minutes before the full release Lamar posted a teaser video for the album's title track.
Lamar, whose tongue-twistingly quick rhymes propelled him to fame in the 2010s, has become increasingly reclusive.
That "GNX" came with little publicity is not a surprise then. The description for the album on Apple Music reads simply, "He asked us to 'watch the party die,' but only so he could resurrect it."
What is a GNX?
A GNX is a Buick high-performance coup. The album's artwork features a black-and-white image of the rapper leaning against the back of a car — a GNX, presumably.
On the first track "Wacced Out Murals," Lamar raps, "Riding in my GNX with Anita Baker in the tank."

Album Role Outs & Digital Releases
The days of plastering thousands of promotional posters and flyer throughout city streets are all but a yet another thing that the "digital divide" has changed. The digital divide is what i call the defining moment/line that music business came face to face with the internet via Napster. As a result, many things have changed or evolved. Things like radio, radio promotions via interviews etc, street style promotions, even all forms of print media suffer.
Lil Wayne has seemingly responded to Kendrick Lamar name-dropping him on his new album, GNX.
In September, Lamar, 37, was announced as the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show headliner in Wayne's hometown of New Orleans. At the time, Wayne expressed his disappointment over not being selected to perform at the big game, which is set to take place at Caesars Superdome on Feb. 9.
On Friday, Nov. 22, the conversation continued when Lamar mentioned the fellow Grammy winner by name in "wacced out murals," a track off his new album.
"Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down / Whatever though, call me crazy, everybody questionable / Turn me to an esk---, I drew the line and decimals," Lamar raps in the second verse.
"Won the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulated me / All these n----s agitated, I'm just glad they showin' they faces," he adds on the track.
On Nov. 23, Wayne seemingly shared his thoughts on Lamar's mention on GNX.
"Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head," "Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all." "No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed," he added. "On me. Love."
