MEGAN THEE STALLION SIGNS NEW DEAL WITH WARNER MUSIC GROUP

Megan Thee Stallion has locked in a new distribution deal with a major label while technically remaining independent.

On Tuesday (December 12), Billboard reported that the Houston Hottie will be working with Warner Music Group to disperse her material moving forward. This is not a standard record deal. Instead, Megan keeps ownership of her music while being able to use WMG’s infrastructure.

In addition to the boost from WMG’s global reach, Meg’s team will consist of employees at 300 Entertainment, whom she worked with as part of her previous deal.

In late October, the 28-year-old and her former label finally put their legal dispute to rest after landing on an agreement. Attorneys representing 1501 Certified Entertainment announced that both parties involved had “mutually reached a confidential settlement to resolve their legal differences,” marking her official release from a deal she once described as “unconscionable.”

“Both Megan and 1501 are pleased to put this matter behind them and move forward with the next chapter of their respective businesses,” the imprint wrote in a statement wishing her the best on her future endeavors.

The exact terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.

KANYE WEST REPORTEDLY HAS A BIG PROBLEM WITH HIS NEW SONG ‘EVERYBODY’

Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s upcoming album features a song that heavily samples the Backstreet Boys, but Ye and Ty could run into some serious issues.

According to TMZ, the duo hasn’t received clearance from the late ’90s boy band for sampling their anthem “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” for their new song “Everybody.”

Vultures is slated to arrive on Friday (December 15) and “Everybody” is expected to make the album after Ye and Ty played the track for a live audience in Miami at their listening party on Monday night (December 11).

It’s also listed as the album’s opening track on Apple Music’s pre-release tracklist. However, sources close to the situation relayed that Ye never got an okay from Backstreet to use their track.

HipHopDX was unable to determine at the time of writing who owns the sound recording rights to the 1997 Denniz Pop and Max Martin-produced bop, and has reached out to RCA Records for clarification.

Kanye has a history of clearing samples at the last minute. For his 2018 track “4th Dimension” with Kid Cudi, West’s team contacted Louis Prima’s estate “hours before the needle dropped.”
