Beyoncé Becomes 2nd Most Nominated Artist At 2024 People's Choice Country Music Awards

Beyoncé‘s push into the world of Country music has yielded another career win as she has emerged with the second highest number of nominations at the upcoming People’s Choice County Music Awards.

According to Billboard, Bey has received a total of 17 nods for the upcoming ceremony, just two less than Country star Zach Bryan. The first two singles from her genre-bending album Cowboy Carter — “16 Carriages” and “Texas Hold ‘Em” — are both nominated for The Female Song of 2024. She’s also was nominated twice in The Cover Song of 2024 category, for her renditions of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and The Beatles’ “Blackbird” — which features rising Country stars Brittney Spencer, Reyna Roberts, Tanner Adell and Tiera Kennedy.

Mrs. Knowles-Carter is also nominated for The People’s Artist of 2024, The Social Country Star of 2024, The Album of 2024, The Song of 2024 (“Texas Hold ‘Em”), The Collaboration Song of 2024 (“Blackbird”), The Crossover Song of 2024 (“II Most Wanted,” her duet with Miley Cyrus), and The Storyteller Song of 2024 (“16 Carriages”).

Nicki Minaj Wins Retraction In Settlement Over Blogger’s Cocaine Use Claims

Nicki Minaj has reportedly scored a major victory in a settlement with a blogger who accused her of serious misbehavior.

TMZ wrote that Minaj settled her suit against Marley “Nosey Heaux” Green, a blogger who posted a video about the star back in September 2022 claiming that she was a “cokehead.”

The terms of the settlement, TMZ says, include Green admitting that everything she said about the Pinkprint rapper and cocaine was untrue, and that she had no evidence for her claims.

In addition, Green cannot say another thing about Nicki and cocaine, or her child, or even retweet comments about the rapper doing anything illegal. Each violation will reportedly cost Green $50,000.

Green posted her original comments, for which she has now admitted she had no evidence, in a video on September 12, 2022.

“[Nicki] is shoving all this cocaine, shoving in all this cocaine up her nose,” she said. “Allegedly. Thank you. Allegedly. But we all know it’s true. Fuck, listen. I can’t even say ‘allegedly’ with that ’cause I, we all know it’s true. I’m not saying allegedly on that. Nicki Minaj is a cokehead.”

Latto not doing too well on the charts

Latto has been ridiculed by fans of Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice over the estimated first-week sales of her new album Sugar Honey Iced Tea.

Despite the project’s all-star supporting cast (which includes Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion and Ciara) and the anticipation surrounding its recent release, Sugar Honey Iced Tea isn’t expected to make a particularly big splash on the Billboard 200 chart. According to HITS Daily Double, the album is projected to earn just shy of 27,000 equivalent units, good enough for a No. 17 debut.

The news delighted the rabid fanbases of both Nicki and Spice, with whom Latto has been embroiled in feuds over the last year and a half.

“LMFAOOOOOOO FLOPPED LIKE EVE[R]Y ALBUM SHE HAS EVER DROPPED,” one Nicki fan account mocked on social media, while another said: “that’s it? HELP.”

A third user wrote in support of Ice Spice: “20 songs with big features and not outselling ice?”

If the projection is accurate, Sugar Honey Iced Tea will fall just short of Ice Spice’s debut album Y2K!, which recently moved 28,000 equivalent units in its opening week, a figure that was seen by some as underwhelming given the enormous success of singles like “Princess Diana,” “Barbie World” and “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2.”

That project, however, peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard 200, slightly lower than where Latto’s is expected to land.

Nicki Minaj, on the other hand, proved last year that she remains the highest-selling female rapper in the game when Pink Friday 2 debuted at No. 1 with almost 230,000 first-week units.

NBA YoungBoy Reportedly Ready To Plead Guilty In Federal Gun Case

NBA YoungBoy is ready to plead guilty in his 2020 federal weapons case, according to local reports.

Baton Rouge’s WFAB wrote on Friday (August 16) that the now-Utah-based rapper’s attorney Drew Findling had filed paperwork readying his client for the change in plea.

The case, in which YoungBoy (real name Kentrell Gaulden) is charged with possession of firearms by a convicted felon, dates back to September 2020, when he was arrested in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana along with 15 other people.

Video of the scene shows police detaining YoungBoy during what appeared to be a video shoot. The 20-year-old artist allegedly had a gun on set and was ultimately taken into custody after a search.

According to court records seen by HipHopDX, YoungBoy was accused of having a Glock .45 caliber pistol and a Masterpiece Arms 9 mm firearm with an attached Magpul “RVG Vertical Grip.”

In addition to the guilty plea, Findling is reportedly also attempting to get the case moved to Utah, where the rapper currently resides (and where he is facing further legal trouble).

JAY-Z's Roc Nation Announces New Merger As Part Of Label Shake-Up

JAY-Z has announced a shake-up at Roc Nation as the record label has merged with Equity Distribution.

Equity was previously the distribution arm of the company, but they are now merging to form one single entity called Roc Nation Distribution, according to Billboard.

Despite the apparent change in focus, with Equity working with independent artists who wished to maintain ownership of their masters, Roc Nation will continue to sign new talent and strengthen its roster.

The merger will see one notable departure from Roc Nation, with co-president Shari Bryant stepping down from her role after five years with the company.

The company operates as a record label and management company, as well as a partner of the NFL overseeing the Super Bowl halftime show and the league’s social justice initiatives.

The label portion of Roc Nation boasts artists such as J. Cole, Rihanna, Jay Electronica and Vic Mensa as well as JAY-Z himself.

Roc Nation also manages the likes of A$AP Rocky, Megan Thee Stallion, DJ Khaled, Jadakiss and Alicia Keys.

Additionally, Roc Nation includes its own sports agency that advises athletes. NBA players such as Kyrie Irving, Markelle Fultz and LaMelo Ball are represented by the agency, as are NFL stars Saquon Barkley, Jaire Alexander and C.J. Henderson.

Michael Rubin's Complaint About Black Culture

Appearing on The Breakfast Club on Wednesday (August 14), the billionaire Fanatics founder (who is white) lamented what he sees is a pattern of Black people tearing each other down while defending his friend and business partner Meek Mill against rampant speculation about his sexuality. “When I see the narrative of a really good friend of mine like Meek […] there’s not one gay bone in his body so why do people want to lie about that? Why do people want to change the narrative to try to hurt him?” he said.

“Look, I’m just being blunt because it’s me. It’s the one thing I’ve learned about Black culture that I don’t like: Black[-on-Black] hate […] It’s horrible.” Rubin, who is also close with JAY-Z, Travis Scott, Lil Baby and other prominent Black entertainers, added: “You guys correct me if I’m wrong. I think there’s a little bit of a Black culture of, like, it’s Black hate-on-hate. It’s like the Black judge that Meek had that hated on him and wanted to go extra hard on him.

“I think it’s terrible. I think it’s culturally wrong […] Why do you not want to build everyone up around you? Why do you not want everyone around you to do great?”
